Be In the Present
To achieve self-improvement, one has to know oneself and be in control of your emotions and thoughts. Having control of your emotions and thoughts is important in being able to gain awareness on what you need to work on and improve on yourself, in order for you to achieve your goals. Meditation is one great way to clear your mind and achieve self-improvement. Meditation is more than just sitting with your eyes closed and praying. Meditation is the process of being one with yourself, and understanding our thoughts and values.
Meditation allows you to relax, to be at peace with yourself and to focus on the present moment. Being present in the moment is one important thing that meditation teaches us. Oftentimes we have so many distractions in our lives that we lose touch and lose focus on being in the present moment. We always look back to the past and think of the future, but we oftentimes forget where we are, at present. The present moment is the one thing we have control and that we can change, and if we can put our focus and attention to the present moment, we will be on our path to self-improvement and success.
How Meditation Changed Me
I’ve never been a great fan of meditation, not until recently when I learned this from Dean’s book Reprogramming The Mind For Success. I’ve struggled to keep up with being awake and focusing on myself when I meditate, and oftentimes a tiny distraction can set me off. I usually end up feeling frustrated when I try to meditate. When I started to do meditation again, I found that I was initially still feeling sleepy and distracted. I followed a guided mindfulness meditation, which helps with teaching on how to focus and what to focus on, and this has helped me get through my hurdle. As time went on, I found that I was able to focus better and became more alert during the meditation process. More importantly, I became more aware of myself. I became more aware of my body, my emotions and my thoughts. I learned to focus on how I feel at present, and how it’s affecting me and my thoughts.
Mindfulness meditation gave me a better understanding of myself, and how I can control the emotions and feel in the opposite way if I had to. It made me aware that I’ve been anxious most of the time, and I found that it was primarily because I keep on thinking of the future and how uncertain my future is. In actual fact, everyone’s future is uncertain and no one knows for sure what is going to happen. At least now, the present moment, we all know what is happening, and we have control over what we can do about it. The present is what determines your future, so whatever you do today will affect your future.
I feel a lot calmer, happier and at peace with myself through mindfulness meditation. I’m able to focus better and understand my emotions as I feel them. I feel I have better control of myself and I’m more capable of progressing towards self-improvement.
To your success in self-improvement,
