Prepare Your Affirmations

Out of the three recommended techniques Dean Whittingham gives for Reprogramming The Mind, affirmations was the first one that I implemented myself.  I introduced visualizations and meditation at later dates as I decided to perfect one strategy before moving on to another.

Having never done this before it took quite a bit of discipline in order to achieve a state of mind where I could automatically carry out my affirmations in the correct manner.  After deciding which ones I would use I decided to say them upon waking in the morning and before retiring at night.  I also decided that if I had any idle time during the day I would say them then as well.  This was not easy for me as I was so used to my regular routine and adding something different took quite a bit of work.  After much persistence I am now at the stage where it happens pretty much automatically.

When you are preparing which affirmations you are going to use, it is not only important to select those which will give you exactly what you want but to have them in the present tense.  What I mean is to say them as if they have already happened, that you have already achieved what you want.  For example if it is your goal to become financially free, don’t say I want to be financially free say, I am financially free.  The phrase I Am is extremely powerful.

The Importance Of Emotion

Probably the most important requirement when saying your affirmations is to feel the emotions you would have if you had actually achieved your goal.  Simply repeating it over and over by rote with no emotion attached to it will not bring you the success you desire.  To help you do this go out and experience what you want first hand.  For example what I did was to go out and test drive the exact car that I wanted to own.  I remember all the great feelings I experienced while doing this and now replay them in my mind as I say that particular affirmation.
