Awareness
I mentioned in my previous article that the reason I was able to turn my life around was due to awareness. I became aware of what was happening in my mind that was causing me so much grief and frustration.
- Why was I having such a run of bad luck
- Why was I unable to achieve success in my goals
- Why was I unable to achieve happiness
- Why was self improvement so difficult to achieve
In his book Reprograming The Mind For Success, Dean Whittingham explains in his very easy to understand writing style, step by step the reasons for my failure in the above points. I would however like to share some of these with you.
Taking Responsibility
The very first thing I needed to do was accept that I was the person responsible for everything that was happening in my life. My mind was influencing my decisions that I made every day and those decisions were creating my exact life up to this point.
In order to reprogram the mind to make decisions that would make my life the way I wanted it, I first of all had to come to grips with the fact that I was the only cause of the problem.
How was my Mind Influencing my Decisions
Each and everyone of us has a self image buried deep down in our subconscious, this has been formed by experiences and events throughout our lives. So even though at a conscious level I wanted to be successful and happy my self image at a subconscious level was much different.
- I had limited beliefs about what I could achieve
- I expected bad luck to be a part of my everyday life
Now because the subconscious is far more powerful than the conscious, every time I attempted to achieve one of my goals I would make a decision which would ultimately cause me to fail. Now why you might ask would it do that? Basically it is only doing it’s job, which is to keep me within my self image or comfort zone. If I were to succeed at my goal this would clash with my deep seeded belief that I could not be successful. Therefore it’s job to keep me there required me to fail.
This information which is explained in much more detail in Reprogramming the Mind for Success was so effective that at any time of the day I could literally step aside and watch what was happening. Whenever I had a negative thought, I knew it was happening and I knew the negative impact it was having on me. Having this knowledge is in itself a powerful feeling, It’s like, I now know what the problem is all I have to do is fix it. In my next article I will share how I did this.
