Is it really necessary to have the correct mindset in order to be successful in life?
Here is a look at what people can achieve with the mindset, and how not having the correct success mindset can rob you of what might fall into your lap if you’re not ready for it.
Having the Correct Mindset for Success
Why do so many lotto winners so often lose all of their windfall, and even end up worse off than they were before their win? A lot of this has to do with what their mind is willing to accept as their level of success.
What we can achieve comes down to what we believe, and our self image. Take two people with differing beliefs in what is possible, and you will see two very different life results. If your self image is that of some-one who finds opportunities everywhere and can make money easily, then that is what you will do.
If your self image is limited and you think life is difficult, then it will be for you.
As Napoleon Hill, the author of the classic Think and Grow Rich said:
You can be anything you want to be, if only you believe with sufficient
conviction and act in accordance with your faith; for whatever the mind
can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.
People who gradually grow and make a success of life overtime usually manage to retain their created fortunes, as their mind’s acceptance of their success grows slowly as they change. Those who have great fortunes thrust upon them, such as lotto winners, are not usually prepared to deal with the fact they are worth millions of dollars, and accordingly their self image sees this as being out of step with who they are. Their mind then subconsciously works on getting them back into their comfort zone, and their behaviour is usually as such to rid themselves of the newly found money to the extent they are back where their internal systems see them as belonging.
You Can Reprogram Your Mind for Success
Fortunately, it is possible for us to change the deep seated root beliefs of who we are and of our status in life. There is more and more evidence coming to light as to exactly how our mind works, and just how simple it is to exercise it (similar to the changes we can induce in our body by exercising our muscles)
to expand our core beliefs, and accordingly expand what we can achieve.
Dean Whittingham experienced this phenomenon first hand when his parents won the lotto, and ended up losing it all and then some. This prompted him to investigate why this is such a common occurrence, and resulted in his book Reprogramming the Mind for Success Dean’s story is a real eye opener, and he explains very simply how our minds work, and how to reprogram them to help us expand our mindset and therefore our results.
As Oliver Wendell Holmes once said:
A man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains it’s original dimensions.
We can all stretch our minds to accommodate new ideas of what we can achieve, letting us reach new heights.
I for one don’t want to look back on life and think ‘what might have been’, and so am actively working on stretching my mind to allow me to achieve exactly what I want in life.
